Blackberry delays reported; RIM investigating

GlobalPost

Canadian company Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM) posted on its Twitter account Wednesday that "some users" are experiencing delays with their Blackberry devices, and it is looking into the problem.

"We’re getting reports that some users are experiencing delays. We’re investigating and will update you ASAP," RIM tweeted on its official Blackberry account, @BlackBerry.

No further information was given.

On Twitter, a handful of Blackberry users said they were experiencing delays receiving emails, and with instant messaging on the BBM service.

"Omg I think blackberry is down again!!! Bbm isn't working! Is anybody elses not working?" tweeted @SM_Beliebeer.

Also on Wednesday, Google announced that it would be ending its support for the Blackberry Gmail application, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Reuters reported that RIM's stock fell more than 4 percent in regular Nasdaq trade Wednesday, closing at $18.05. This is the stock's lowest close since August 2004, Reuters said.

Blackberry users on five continents suffered days of service disruptions last month, which RIM blamed on a "core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure."

On Monday, RIM denied widespread reports of an outage on the Blackberry network, saying that service interruptions were due to a wider internet problem unrelated to the company's infrastructure, CBC News reported.
