“President Obama has failed the American people by failing to secure the southern border,” said Bachmann, the Associated Press reports. “I will secure that border and that will be job one.”
Bachmann brought up the issue of immigration while campaigning in an Iowa town, where about one third of the residents are Hispanic, Fox News Latino reports. The town is a major meatpacking industry, drawing immigrant workers, AP reports.

The Republican candidate that has fell from the top tier of GOP potential candidates renewed her attacks on Gov. Rick Perry’s immigration policies, along with criticizing President Barack Obama for “his failure to control the border,” the Associated Press reports.
“Van Hipp Jr., head of Americans for Securing Our Border, said Bachmann was the first GOP presidential hopeful to sign the pledge, but he added the group plans to aggressively seek the support of others as well,” the AP reports.
The signed pledge binds Bachmann to support the construction of a double fence along the length of the U.S. border with Mexico by 2013, the AP reports.
