The US Navy announced that it is naming a research vessel after the late astronaut Neil Armstrong.
The Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research ship (AGOR 27) is a new kind of research ship for the navy, which will help in mapping the deepest parts of the ocean using acoustic equipment.
The research vessel will not be completed until late 2014.
As Armstrong's name will be added to the first ship, the entire class of the vessel will be referred to as "Armstrong class" said Forbes.
