Pope retweeted more than Justin Bieber, Vatican says

Pope Benedict XVI, who just recently opened a Twitter account, is already retweeted more often than pop star Justin Bieber, the Vatican said according to Reuters.

The Vatican newspaper said Thursday that the Pope had 2.1 million Twitter followers, just eight days after sending his first tweet, according to Reuters.

Bieber actually has 31.7 million followers, 15 times that of the Pope, which makes it all the more impressive.

In September, Bieber posted the second most retweeted post of the year: “RIP Avalanna. i love you,” about one of his fans, the New York Daily News reported.

The pope tweets in a dizzying array of languages including English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Arabic.

According to the Vatican newspaper, the 85-year-old will start tweeting in Latin and Chinese.
