OMG abbreviation traced back to 1917 Winston Churchill letter (VIDEO)
This 1917 letter to Winston Churchill contains the first documented use of the now-ubiquitous OMG!
Now a universal term, the abbreviation OMG! is much older than you might think.
According to a document posted by Letters of Note on Twitter, the term was first used by the one-time head of the British Navy during World War I in a letter to Winston Churchill in 1917.

The letter from Lord John Fisher, dated 9/9/17, states: "I hear that a new order of Knighthood is on the tapis — O.M.G. (Oh! My God!) — Shower it on the Admiralty!!!"
While no one is quite sure what "Shower it on the Admiralty" means, Time magazine suggests Fisher may have been accustomed to writing Churchill in code during his days of World War I service. Thus, the OMG. The rest, as you might say, is texting history.
