New England braces for third snowstorm in as many weekends
New England is bracing for the third snowstorm in as many weekends, as much of the region prepares for snow and freezing rain.
Most of the United States' Northeast — from northern Connecticut through southern Maine — is expecting significant snow and rain, the National Weather Service advised. More inland areas are also expecting significant snow accumulation, Reuters reported.
There could be accumulation of between six and 18 inches of snow in some areas.
The Midwest has already been hit heavily with snow: Kansas saw almost a foot of accumulation on Wednesday, and canceled hundreds of flights as a result, NBC News reported.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Kansas Governor Sam Brownback both declared states of emergency due to the weather, CNN reported.
However, much of the East Coast is already old hat at storm prep, after facing two such winter storms already.
"Boston will be ready," said Mayor Thomas Menino, CNN reported. "We will be out treating the roads before the snow, and our plows are ready to hit the streets this weekend."
