Kenya: One dead in Mombasa bar attack
The blast came a day after the US embassy in Kenya warned a terrorist attack on Mombasa was “imminent.”
At least one person has been killed and several others are seriously injured after a hand grenade attack on a bar in the Kenyan tourist hub of Mombasa.
Kenya's Capital FM quotes a police officer in the port city as saying that the attack happened at Jericho Bar, several miles from the CBD, at 10pm on Sunday. He confirmed that one person had died.
"I am seeing one body. We are trying to seal off the area as we wait for officers to establish what kind of an explosion it was," Ambrose Munyasia, the region's top criminal investigation officer, told Reuters. The news agency adds that other sources had put the death toll at three.

The blast came a day after the US embassy in Kenya warned of the threat of an imminent attack in Mombasa and suspended all US government travel to the area until July 1, says AFP. France's embassy in the capital Nairobi had also warned its citizens to be "extremely vigilant" in the area.
The BBC explains that Kenya has experienced several grenade attacks since sending troops into Somalia to fight the Islamist Al-Shabaab militia last year.
