Hillary Clinton discharged from hospital in New York

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has been discharged from New York Presbyterian Hospital, the State Department confirmed Wednesday evening, according to reports.

Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, sent a tweet confirming the news:

Earlier in the day, Clinton was seen leaving a building at the hospital with Chelsea and husband Bill. Many initial media reports said that Clinton had left the hospital, implying that she had been released; but several others said that Clinton had merely been traveling between buildings for additional treatment.

A flurry of conflicting reports addressing whether she had actually been discharged followed.

Associated Press reporter Josh Lederman said that Clinton only left the building to head to a different part of the hospital. "Clinton was photographed Wednesday getting into a black van with her husband, Bill, daughter, Chelsea, and a security contingent to be taken elsewhere on the sprawling hospital campus," he wrote.

"To clarify, AP is NOT reporting, and has not reported, that Hillary Clinton has been released from the hospital," the AP's Lederman tweeted.

Journalists working with Reuters and the New York Daily News who witnessed Clinton's exit did not report firm details on Clinton's status.

"It was unclear where she was going or whether she had been discharged from the hospital," Reuters said.

The Daily News headline, as of 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, reflected the afternoon's confusion: "Hillary Clinton seen leaving hospital after blood clot treatment…and then spotted heading back inside a short while later," it read.

A State Department press briefing at about 1 p.m. today described Clinton's situation as unchanged since Dec. 31.

"She is on blood thinners now and the doctors are monitoring her. We will continue to keep you updated as we have new information to share, as we’ve been doing all the way along," spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.

Clinton has spent the past four days at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, after doctors found a blood clot in the space between her brain and her skull during a follow-up exam to check on her after she fainted and hit her head earlier in December, CNN reported.

The 65-year-old politician hasn’t appeared in public since Dec. 7, the Associated Press reported.

Clinton’s doctors have been treating her with blood thinners to dissolve the clot, according to CNN.

State Department officials said Clinton was reviewing paperwork and making calls while convalescing, Politico reported. Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland described Clinton as "quite active" on the phone today.

Clinton's doctors said Monday that they expected Clinton to make a full recovery, adding that they would release her from the hospital once they had established the proper dose for the blood thinners, the AP reported.
