Halloween lobster discovered in New England saved from bubbling cauldron (VIDEO)
Fishermen caught this bizarre-looking black-and-orange lobster just in time for Halloween. Dana Duhaime found the one-pound female lobster in one of his traps sitting in Bakers Channel near Beverly, Massachusetts, and the New England Aquarium revealed her on October 31, 2012.
You might think this is half-baked, but fishermen in New England have caught a bizarre-looking black-and-orange lobster – and just in time for Halloween.
To make it even more holiday-appropriate, an angler from Salem, Massachusetts, can lay claim to catching the colorful crustacean.
Dana Duhaime found the one-pound female lobster in one of his traps sitting in Bakers Channel near Beverly, Massachusetts.
Beverly was once part of Salem and shares a harbor with the city known for its famous witch-hunts and trials, the New England Aquarium said.
The aquarium said it wanted to introduce the lobster, split down the middle with orange on one side and black on the other, on Monday until Hurricane Sandy arrived.
This isn’t the first “split” lobster to come NEA’s way.
It says one out of every 50 million to 100 million lobsters are born split, although staff said two Canadian anglers each discovered the rarity earlier this summer.
The orange side of this split lobster comes from a lack of pigment that normally combines with others to dull lobsters into that grey-green hue.
It joins blue, yellow and calico lobsters discovered recently and now living at the aquarium, all of which are apparently safe from bubbling cauldrons everywhere this October 31.
