Gabrielle Giffords, shot in the head on Jan. 8 in Tucson, Arizona, has served Thanksgiving turkey to troops and retirees stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
Giffords, shot as she met with constituents outside a Tucson supermarket, reportedly arrived at the Thanksgiving dinner wearing an apron reading "Gabby" and accompanied by her retired astronaut husband Mark Kelly.
She only used her left hand when she served the meals, according to The Associated Press — a sign of the physical damage that she still sustains in the shooting that left six people dead.
Giffords has been undergoing rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston.
CBS reported that Giffords worked the turkey station on the serving line, while Kelly served ham.
Kelly reportedly said recently that Giffords is "still improving" and she'd like to run for another term, according to CBS.
He told ABC's "Good Morning America" his job is to "make sure she can get better so she can go back to her career."
Kelly says Giffords is working on just stringing her sentences together and says viewers didn't see that so much in a recent taped ABC interview.
According to the AP, after the Thanksgiving service, Giffords mingled with service members, exchanging some one-word greetings and responses.
She did tell Airman 1st Class Millie Gray, of Kansas City, Mo., "Happy Thanksgiving, thank you for your service."
Kelly says his wife hasn't made the decision yet whether to seek another term, but that she'll know when the time is right.
