Anthony Weiner hits campaign trail for NYC mayor

NEW YORK — This city's politics, known for its "over-the-top spectacles" as the New York Times writes, just got a bit more entertaining.

On Thursday, former US congressman Anthony Weiner, re-emerged on the campaign trail, a day after announcing he would run for mayor of New York City.

Weiner, gained notoriety two years ago after he tweeted sexual shots of his genitals to women, a scandal that many thought would end his political career forever.

Weiner made his first public appearance Thursday morning in Harlem, in what media accounts have called "circuslike," followed by a trail of dozens of reporters and a cadre of police officers.

In Harlem, the Democrat met and asked voters for a second chance, telling them "I am a problem solver for people."

Many New Yorkers who followed the scandal are intrigued by his comeback but it remains to be seen if they will forgive his previous indiscretions.

On Wednesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told the Syracuse Media Group “shame on us” when asked how he felt about voters in his state electing Weiner.

Weiner has just a few months to win over voters. The primary for the election is on September 10 and the election is set for November 5.
