Talk about a bad omen.
A crow and a seagull swooped in and attacked two peace doves released on Sunday by Pope Francis and two children as a symbolic appeal for peace in Ukraine.
One lost a few feathers, but appeared to escape from the clutches of the gull.
The other was pecked repeatedly by a large black crow (a.k.a. Satan's henchman) and flew away.
God only knows what happened to the doves after that.
The spectacle justifiably freaked out the audience gathered in Vatican City, where tens of thousands had gathered in St. Peter's Square to hear the pontiff speak.
This is the second year in a row that a peace dove has been attacked upon release at the Vatican.
Speaking at the window earlier, Pope Francis had appealed for peace in Ukraine, where anti-government protests have killed both police and protesters and thrown the country into turmoil.
