Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo Offered Amnesty for Stepping Down
The incumbent leader of Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo is being offered amnesty from international prosecution if he agrees to step down. He lost his presidency in the country’s 2010 presidential election, but has refused to concede to his opponent, Alasanne Ouatarra. African leaders have threatened to throw Mr. Gbagbo out of office if he doesn’t accept the deal and the United Nations is currently investigating human rights abuses in the Ivory Coast.
