Syria’s War Arrives in Tripoli, Lebanon

Syria’s two-year-old war has arrived in Lebanon, and the northern city of Tripoli is not immune.

In the past month, more than 30 people have been killed there in battles that pit pro-Syrian government partisans against those supporting the Syrian rebels.

In many ways, the violence mirrors what’s going on in Syria – anti-Assad Sunnis vs. minority Alawites allied with Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

In some cases, it’s neighborhood against neighborhood.

Many in Lebanon fear their country could be dragged deeper into the Syrian conflict — with Tripoli leading the way.
