Independence Day is of course one of Hollywood’s favorite holidays. The box offices offer up some of summer’s expected big hits.
On this 4th of July holiday we look to a film that kids should have fun with. Actor Steve Carell is back as the voice of Gru, who’s recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help fight a new super-criminal in “Despicable Me 2.”
There’s also a stand-up comedy concert film starring one of today’s popular celebrity comedians: “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain.”
Finally, Disney’s remake of “The Lone Ranger” hits the box office and aims to tell the story of how John Reid came to be the man behind the mask–it stars Johnny Depp as Tonto, and Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger.
Our Movie Date team, Rafer Guzman and Kristen Meinzer, weigh in with their reviews for this holiday weekend. Rafer is film critic for Newsday, and Kristen is culture producer for The Takeaway.
Our coverage reaches millions each week, but only a small fraction of listeners contribute to sustain our program. We still need 224 more people to donate $100 or $10/monthly to unlock our $67,000 match. Will you help us get there today?
