Welcome! The Takeaway is hosted by John Hockenberry. He’s won a raft of awards for his broadcasting work including four Emmy’s, three Peabody Awards, and an Edward R. Murrow Award.
John is a storyteller and an advocate for all those who seek to better understand the world. Back in the day he was the original host of NPR’s “Talk of the Nation.” If you are new to the program, John has a few words of welcome here.
The program is produced in New York City. It is space on the radio for you to “share what you know.” The Takeaway is as much about the lessons you’ve learned as it is about getting a grip on all that happening around the country and around the world.
It’s where we want you to start–and share–your conversation. Your calls are always welcome on 1-877-8-MY-TAKE, we are on Facebook and on Twitter. You can hear us throughout the U.S., this map will help you find out where to hear us and at what time. You can also take us with you as a podcast.
Weekdays we hope you’ll join us as we check in with news makers, great guests and sharp analysis. But it’s also a time for those who matter most to us–and that’s you.
At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.
Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
