Brayden Simms, a copy editor at the Miami Herald was recently laid of and had his position outsourced to India. He is one of 250 staff to be eliminated in a 10 percent personnel cut by the owner of the Miami Herald, McClatchy Co.
Roy Peter Clark, senior scholar at the Poynter Institute, says it’s a controversial issue in newsrooms even as industry woes continue. He says that institutional knowledge and cultural context are not something that can easily be outsourced.
