Canada has become the first country to formally withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol agreement on climate change. Citing that the United States and China, the world’s two biggest carbon-emitters, are exempt from the pact, Canada’s environmental minister said, “Kyoto is not the path forward for a global solution to climate change.” The pact, adopted in 1997, is aimed at fighting global warming.
