Robert Ford, U.S. Ambassador to Syria, learned this yesterday when supporters of President Bashar al-Assad hurled tomatoes and eggs at him, on a visit to one of al-Assad’s rivals in Damascus. We’re speaking with Wendy Chamberlin,  president of the Middle East Institute and former ambassador to Pakistan and Laos.
