Questions surround increased US-Pakistan cooperation
Senior Pakistani officials, led by Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, are in Washington today for talks with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But there are some questions around who is really running the show.
Arif Rafiq, who writes the Pakistan Policy Blog, says Pakistan’s army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, will be taking the lead in these meetings. In recent weeks U.S. and Pakistani intelligence officials appear to have moved to a new level of cooperation, beginning with the capture of the Taliban’s number-two, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, in Karachi.
