Pelosi called on the international community to put pressure on China, and that the world investigate China’s charge that the Dalai Lama is behind the violence in Tibet. China’s Ambassador to India responded by saying Tibet is an internal matter for China. some would question what the good of a public figure such as Pelosi making comments on China and Tibet is. But this China scholar says that’s nonsense and the problems are a direct result of the failure of confronting China. The reasons for not upsetting Beijing include China’s economic importance, China’s seat on the UN Security Council, and their help in international terrorism. But this analyst thinks the pressure is not a bad thing. A host of international leaders have challenged China on Tibet.
