Yesterday we spoke about the large number of Americans receiving public assistance, and the story got you commenting as well. Listeners weighed in with their own personal stories about work and the issue of pride when you are getting help from the government.
Kanajune from Tacoma wrote in to give us this response:
“I think it’s much worse to need help for your family and not get it. My bipolar daughter, with two middle-school age kids, gets foods tamps because she only gets $500 a month for child support. I help as much as I can. But it is beyond pride for many people: if the help was there, she would gratefully take it in order to keep her kids from the much worse stigma of losing their home, missing school and going to a shelter!”
