Kevin Jones, early voter from Illinois, celebrates Obama win

The World

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

So tell me, have you seen him?

[SONG – ?HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?]

“Him” is Kevin Jones. We haven’t seen him but he’s been a part of America’s Exit Poll and he joins us now by phone from Chicago. Kevin Jones, Obama voter and road manager for the Chi-Lites ?

[BOTH SPEAK AT ONCE]

KEVIN JONES:

And I have [?]. Morning.

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

[LAUGHS] Good morning Kevin, how are you feeling this morning?

KEVIN JONES:

Oh, I am just ? I had to pinch myself two or three times just to make sure I was alive.

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

And you’re up kind of early this morning. I mean what did you do last night?

KEVIN JONES:

We were downtown in Grant Park last night with ? it looked ? it had to be a million people out there. And it was just one of the most electrifying moments, it was a tear-jerker and it was just a party.

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

Well, what just happened? I mean what ? what do you think happened in America yesterday from your perspective?

KEVIN JONES:

The glass ceiling in America finally got broken and the ? America, from all walks of life, finally said, the melting pot in America is really real. They finally said that yes, the rights of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness really becomes true.

They said to theirselves what they made when our forefathers from the Constitution is a part of the? the [?] for American life of reality and they gave a opportunity of change and hope. And people started chanting, yes, we can and renewing hope back into themselves.

And if those chants were just echoed around the world and around America like they were in Grant Park, Chicago, then America’s change and the strength of America and the whole tone of America should start moving in another direction. And I’m curious to see what the stock market does today.

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

Yeah, well the stock market might, might go down today. It was up yesterday but it might go down today, but we’ll see. That’s something to worry about over the long haul. I, I think at the very least, maybe Kevin, you should change the name of your nightclub to the Hope Lounge.

[KEVIN LAUGHS]

Kevin, [LAUGHS] thanks so much for being with us.

KEVIN JONES:

Fabulous.

JOHN HOCKENBERRY:

Kevin Jones, a part of America’s Exit Poll and Obama voter there in Chicago.
