Prices of oil, rice, wheat and coffee have spiked in recent months; but they aren t the only commodities in greater demand. So is used cooking grease. In 2006, food grease disposed of by restaurants went for 11 to 13 cents a pound.
Now, it goes for 33 cents a pound. Grease renderers say that as the price of grease rises on the market, levels of grease theft are skyrocketing.
