Reggae doesn’t have the pull on Jamaica’s youth that it used to.
But there are still plenty of people listening to what’s referred to there as “roots” music.
And plenty of musicians making it.
The duo Israel Vibration is one of the biggies.
The two founding members of the band Wiss Bulgin and Skelly Spence both had polio as kids. They met at a Kingston rehab center. Wiss and Skelly later converted to rastafarianism.
And here’s the “Jewish” connection…. Sort of.
A Rasta sect known as the Twelve Tribes of Israel… gave the duo seed money to start their group. The band’s been playing together now for 30 years.
In fact, their new CD is called “Stamina.”
