The World

For today’s Geo Quiz we’re looking for a place nicknamed the city of spires. Those spires belong to a many landmarks.

One is the oldest Gothic cathedral in central Europe. Another is a 9th century castle — home to the country’s crown jewels.

This central European capital was once behind the Iron Curtain. Since the fall of communism, however, it’s become one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. Not as popular as London, Paris, Rome, Madrid or Berlin.

But it still gets lots of visitors — in the summertime especially. Recently, a radio station in this city has been in the news.

Authorities accused the station of promoting fascism… by playing a song that mentions swastikas.

We’ll tell you more about that in a minute. First you’ve got to brush up on your central European capitals.

For today’s Geo Quiz we wanted you to name a city in the Czech Republic that was once part of the Soviet Union.

It won its independence in 1993 with the Velvet Revolution, and since then has become one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.

The answer is Prague.

A radio station there is at the center of a controversy over free speech. The World’s David Leveille has the story.
