DARPA reveals robotic dog

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) unveiled it's latest military gadget this week, a robotic dog that can carry over a 400 pounds.
The idea is to unburden military personal who sometimes have to carry over 100 pounds. According to DARPA's news release, this is one of the Army's major research goals.
It's hoped that the new Legged Squad Support System (LS3) will become part of soldiers' squads.
The little guy could serve as a "mobile auxiliary power source" that troops can use to recharge equipment while in the field.
"LS3 represents the culmination of a decade of research in perception and autonomy with programs like DARPA’s Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle-Perception for Off-Road Robotics Integration (UPI) program, mobility work with DARPA’s “Big Dog” and significant advances in natural human-robot interface such as voice recognition."
