Aurora victim’s wife gives birth

Katie Medley gave birth to a boy today as her husband Caleb, a victim of the Aurora theater shooting, laid in the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. today at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, while his 23-year-old father laid nearby in a medically induced coma, reported the Associated Press. The hospital said both Hugo and his 21-year-old mother were doing great.

According to Reuters, Caleb is an aspiring comedian and is still listed in critical condition. A website that has been set up to raise money for his care said he has lost his right eye and suffered brain damage.

The Medley family is said to be without health insurance and Caleb is expected to remain in the hospital for another week or two, reported Colorado's KWGN. According to the fundraising website, almost 25 percent of its $500,000 goal has already been raised, with $123,256.77 listed as the current collected total.

Katie and Caleb Medley were high school sweethearts and started dating in their senior year in the small town of Florence, Colo., according to NBC News.

"You could just tell that out of everyone in the world, these two were meant for each other," close friend Michael West wrote on Caleb's website.
