Southern Italians ditched their New Year’s Eve parties to help freezing refugees rescued at sea
The Italian Coast Guard has rescued a freighter packed with refugees. Smugglers had pointed the vessel at the coast and abandoned ship, the third such incident in two weeks. But locals on shore have responded, even halting New Year’s Eve celebrations to help out the freezing and panicked asylum seekers.
