New York City’s ban on the sale of sugary drinks was struck down in court earlier this week, one day before the ban was supposed to take effect. And while some critics cheered, other critics say the ban wasn’t broad enough to cover the range of potentially harmful sugary drinks.
New York City drivers face new restrictions on when they may buy gas as the region deals with a major fuel shortage, an enduring problem from Hurricane Sandy’s tear through the area. So far, reports are that the rationing system is cutting lines at filling stations, making it easier to get the gas that is available.
During the Super Bowl Sunday, one commercial was for a political group seeking to make small changed to the gun control laws in the country. The measures are backed by a 600-member coalition of big- and small-city mayors. In the ad, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Tom Menino starred.
After nearly two months, the New York Police swept into Zucotti Park Tuesday night, ordering Occupy Wall Street protesters to leave the park with their belongings, or be arrested. About 150 protesters were taken into police custody.
