House committee approves bill granting wide exemptions to environmental laws

House Republicans are trying to carve out a large exemption to federal clean environment regulations. A bill in committee now would grant the U.S. Department of Homeland Security an exemption from almost all environmental laws when on federal land, within 100 miles of an international border.
