Suzanne Mubarak, the half-Welsh wife of deposed President Hosni Mubarak, reportedly suffered a heart attack Friday after being questioned in a corruption investigation, the manager of the Sharm el-Sheikh Hospital said.

Mubarak had been taken into custody on suspicion that she "abused her position for the illegal acquisition of wealth."

A team of investigators from the Ministry of Justice had questioned the former president in the same hospital for three hours Thursday regarding "using his political position as president to acquire illegal wealth," CNN reported

The 82-year-old former president is still in the Sharm el-Sheikh hospital after also apparently suffering a heart attack while being questioned on Apr. 12.

MENA said prosecutors ordered Suzanne Mubarak detained for 15 days Friday pending further investigation of the allegations, according to the Associated Press.

It was not immediately clear where she would be held, although a security source told AFP that she could be taken to Qanater prison on the outskirts of Cairo.

Crowds of people in Tahrir Square broke out into cheers and women ululated on hearing the news of her detention, AFP reported. The former first lady was known to be the driving force behind plans to have her son Gamal take over the presidency from his father, seen as one of several initiating factors in the recent uprising.

Thursday was the first time Mubarak and his wife faced interrogation.
