Small blast at Davos hotel before Clinton visit

A minor explosion has occurred at a hotel in Davos on Thursday, close to where the World Economic Forum is taking place, but nobody was injured, according to media reports.

"I can confirm that there has been an explosion in a storage room in the basement of the [Post Hotel Morosani]. Our staff is there now. There has been minor damage but nobody was injured," Thomas Hobi, a spokesman for the Grisons police said, CNN reported.

Fon Mahturos, a Forum spokesman, said "a small firework went off at the back entrance" of the hotel.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton is scheduled to attend a party Thursday night at the Post Hotel Morosani, one of the most prestigious in Davos.

According to Swiss media, a group protesting the World Economic Forum had threatened in an e-mail to attack the hotel with fireworks.

La Tribune de Geneve said the hotel was being used by the Swiss government during the forum.

According to MarketWatch, the euro's woes remain the hot topic at Davos.

Although the euro this week has continued its recovery, participants in the Forum say high debt levels in Greece and Ireland can’t be addressed solely by emergency lending from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
