Bollywood's Shilpa Shetty may be too hot for Bangalore to handle — or at least for the killjoys behind the World Kannada Meet. India's Mid-Day newspaper reports that Shetty has gotten a thumbs down from event organizers because of her "skimpy dress sense," and the older and wiser Aishwarya Rai has gotten the nod. Is this more of India's usual double standard — that if you're part of the "in crowd" you can show all the skin you like and still be respected for your "craft"? I seem to recall that Ash was looking pretty bare herself on a few recent occasions….
Apparently, organizers tried to deny that "exposing" was a factor in their decision and Ash was just their first choice, but Mid-Day got it on the Q-T that at least some folks on the committee thought sexy Shilpa was tops. "We prefer Shilpa to other Bollywood stars because she has acted in Kannada movies and connects well with the Kannada audience," a secret source told Mid-Day. "But some writers are not comfortable with the idea and plans have been changed just to avoid controversy."
BTW: Kannada is the main regional language of Karnataka, where Bangalore is the capital… which is why they want us to call it Bengalaru. Sufficiently confused?
How about a little Six Degrees of Shilpa to make her a Hollywood star, as well as yoga guru and Big Boss beatdown victim?
1. Shilpa Shetty is cricket-commentator-and-world's-slowest-batsman Geoffrey Boycott's favorite Bollywood hottie….
2. Geoffrey Boycott appears on ESPN etc with Pakistani bowler-turned-member-of-parliament Imran Khan…
3. Imran Khan was until recently married to Brit Jemima (Goldsmith) Khan….
4. Jemima dated Hollywood star Hugh Grant for three years….
5. Hugh Grant starred with Colin Firth and Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones' Diary….
6. And, you guessed it…. Colin Firth starred with Kevin Bacon in Where the Truth Lies.
