Indian’s WNBA hopes dashed before preseason

India will have to wait a little longer for its Yao Ming–even in the WNBA.

The first Indian player to be invited to try out for the premier women's professional basketball league, Geethu Anna Jose tried out for the Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks and San Antonio Silver Stars, but failed to win a spot on any team for the preseason, the Associated Press reports.

According to the AP's short blurb, at least one team was impressed with Jose's skills but couldn't find a spot for the 6 foot 2 forward on the roster because it already had several players for that position.

A native of Kerala, Jose has played professionally in Australia, but had told AP that her dream was to play against the world's best in the WNBA.
