Brazil backed the U.S. in voting for a U.N. resolution that appointed a human rights monitor to investigate abuses in Iran. With the vote, Dilma Rousseff further distanced her government from the Iranian regime, reversing the ties maintained by her predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. A report in the newspaper O Globo said President Barack Obama personally asked Rousseff to vote for the resolution when he visited the country last weekend. But, the newspaper says, Rousseff didn't tell him yes or no at the time and Brazil’s intentions were unknown until the vote.
