As opposition leaders walked into the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, angry Syrian protesters pelted them with eggs, preventing them for actually entering the building to discuss the recent violence in Syria, the Associated Press reported.

The protesters threw eggs at a four-man delegation of the Syrian National Coordination Committee, headed by Hassan Abdul-Azim, the Daily Telegraph reported. These recent acts highlight the divisions within the Syrian opposition, which is still struggling to overcome the months of fighting against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Earlier Wednesday, in Syria, troops killed 12 civilians in Damascus, five of whom were attending a funeral and caught up in the government’s crackdown on dissent, the AP reported. "Six civilians were killed in the Damascus neighborhood of Barzeh, five of whom were slain by security forces who fired on the funeral of a young man,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told the AP.

On Tuesday, 20 bodies were added to the death toll as well, only increasing anger in Syria, the AP reported.

Last week the Arab League assigned a peace plan to Syria, which would force troops to leave the streets and have the government release all detained protesters. Still, despite signing the Arab League’s plan, more than 60 people were killed in Syria, bringing the United Nations’ estimate to 3,500 people who have died in the crackdowns on protesters, the AP reported.
