Sydney rejects “mega brothel” over competition fears

Sydney’s city council has scuppered a proposal for what would have been Australia's largest brothel.

ABC reported that all 10 councilors voted against the mega-brothel featuring rooms with multiple beds and pool tables.

The proposed US 12.2 million dollar project was an extension to the existing Stiletto premises in Sydney's Camperdown area.

It would have doubled its working rooms to 40 and created a wing for group bookings.

Agence France Presse said the application was rejected on Monday night because it was too ambitious, and would threaten other brothels in the area.

Referring to Australia's largest shopping mall chain, one councilor said:

This brothel is the Westfield of brothels. We're not prudes, we're not opposed to brothels, but we have a policy of anti-clustering, spreading them out.

Addressing residents’ concerns over noise levels, Lord Mayor Clover Moore told the meeting there was little doubt the brothel would have an impact on neighbors.
