An Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinians allegedly preparing to launch a rocket attack Tuesday.

Israel's Defense Forces claim that the men had been preparing to fire on Israel when they were spotted by an Israeli military jet.

Israeli media report that the military believed the men were Islamic extremists and members of an Al Qaeda-inspired group, the AP reports. Several such groups have emerged in Gaza in the past few years amond radicals who consider Hamas too moderate.

Hamas and Israel have mostly adhered to an unofficial ceasefire introduced in April and this is the most serious incident to occur since then.

The Israel military claims that Israeli territory was fired upon three times over the weekend, Al Jazeera reports. No injuries were reported.
