Chris Christie considering run for president: report

GlobalPost

A source "close" to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told The Newark Star-Ledger on Thursday that Christie is now seriously considering a White House run.

The latest news comes after a week of conflicting reports about Christie's desire to enter the contest. For months, Christie has said publicly that he doesn't want to run, but rumors and the enthusiasm of some Republicans unhappy with their party's current candidates have fueled speculation that Christie would get in.

From the Star-Ledger:

In the last week, Christie has been swayed away from his earlier refusals to run by an aggressive draft effort from a cadre of Republicans and donors unhappy with the GOP field, said the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

Either way, Christie needs to make his decision soon. The deadline to file for the Florida primary is October 31.

Meanwhile, The New York Post reported Friday that senior Republicans and even his own top advisers are urging Christie to get in the race.

“This country needs a straight shooter and a proven leader. I urge Chris Christie to run for president to fill the void and lead America forward,” former New York Governor George Pataki said in a statement Thursday.

According to the Post, Christie's senior advisers are placing calls to key activists and supporters.

On Tuesday, Christie's brother Todd Christie told the Star-Ledger he was "sure" his brother would not run for president.

"If he's lying to me, I'll be as stunned as I've ever been in my life," he said.
