Africa’s most active volcano erupts

Mount Nyamulagira is erupting again. The volcano in eastern Congo, said to be Africa’s most active, is inside the Virunga National Park, which is home to many of the world’s last surviving mountain gorillas.

Nyamulagira erupts frequently — the last time was in January 2010 — but this time around park rangers say that neither people nor animals are threatened, which means you can have a clear conscience as you enjoy these dramatic photographs taken by LuAnne Cadd at Virunga National Park.
