Vatican loves new James Bond movie

On Tuesday, the Vatican newspaper proclaimed its love for "Skyfall" when it ran five articles about the new James Bond movie.

"Skyfall" received a rave review in l'Osservatore Romano, calling it one of the best of the 23 James Bond films made in the past 50 years, reported Reuters. In the paper's main article with the title "007 License to Cry," the writer says that newest version of the world's most famous spy is a good one, because it makes him less cliché and "more human, capable of being moved and of crying: in a word, more real."

According to CWN, the Vatican paper's Tuesday edition also included an interview with the movie's star, Daniel Craig; a list of previous actors who portrayed Mr. Bond; a note on how author Ian Fleming chose the name of his spy; and a review of all 23 soundtracks of the Bond films that have been released to date. 

The Catholic Church famously condemned Federico Fellini's classic film "La Dolce Vita" when it was released in 1960 through l'Osservatore Romano, reported Movieline. It thought a scene from the movie was a parody of Christ's second coming.

CWN also noted that since Gian Maria Vian became the newspaper's editor in 2007, l'Osservatore Romano has made an effort to include more articles about the world of pop culture, and now frequently carries reviews and essays on films and music.
