A-Rod may be out: Yankees contract in question after doping scandal

GlobalPost

The future of Yankees third baseman Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez is looking bleak.

The Yankees player may not be the highest paid in the MLB for much longer following a Miami New Times report that said he bought performance enhancing drugs at a South Florida wellness clinic called Biogenesis, owned and operated by Anthony Bosch from 2009 to 2012.

"(The Yankees) can't do anything until the MLB investigation is concluded and they take action, if any," an anonymous source told ESPN.

If the rumors turn out to be true, it's suspected the Yankees will end its $114 million contract with #13.

A Yankees executive told USA Today that Rodriguez will likely be summoned by Major League Baseball to its New York offices to answer questions on the alleged drug abuse. Rodriguez is facing a 50-game suspension and the possible loss of $9 million. The executive added that the Yankees organization hopes Rodriguez simply retires.

In a statement A-Rod responded to the allegations via the New York Post:

"The news report about a purported relationship between Alex Rodriguez and Anthony Bosch are not true. Alex Rodriguez was not Mr. Bosch's patient, he was never treated by him and he was never advised by him. The purported documents referenced in the story — at least as they relate to Alex Rodriguez — are not legitimate."

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez, also implicated in the report, issued a denial on Twitter.
