Prince Philip out of hospital after treatment for bladder infection

Prince Philip was released from hospital today after five days of treatment for a bladder infection.

Philip, the 91-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was seen shaking hands and joked with staff at Scotland’s Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before climbing into a waiting Range Rover, the Associated Press reported.

Agence France-Presse said Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, needed no assistance to get into the vehicle.

"The duke was a very good patient and as he left the hospital he told staff to behave themselves and he said he was going back to enjoy the rest of his holiday,” a nurse said.

CNN reported that Philip was admitted to hospital on Wednesday – the third time he has been hospitalized in the past eight months – following the recurrence of a bladder infection.

He has returned to the Queen’s private Balmoral estate, about 40 miles west of Aberdeen, where the rest of his family are spending their annual summer holiday.

The Queen and Prince Philip married on Nov. 20, 1947, in London’s Westminster Abbey. They have four children, Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.

Philip spent five nights in hospital with a bladder infection in June. At Christmas he underwent surgery to have a stent inserted into a blocked coronary artery.
