According to police, the dead cats were packed in plastic bags in the freezer.

The living cats squatted in crates stacked floor to ceiling, The Associated Press reported.

Authorities made the grisly find after a neighbor called to complain about an overpowering odor of cat urine and feces, according to the Times Union.

Charges are being weighed against, Vandyke.

Authorities say they suspect she is a compulsive hoarder, which is defined as the excessive collection of items along with the inability to discard them.

It can be a symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder, according to Mayo Clinic.
