Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, to host Chris Christie fundraiser

Facebook Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg will host a fundraiser for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s reelection campaign at his Palo Alto, Calif., home in February, the Associated Press reported.

It’s believed that this is the first time that Zuckerberg has opened up his home for an event to raise money for a political candidate, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The guest list will include friends and colleagues, who can donate up to $3,800, New Jersey’s legal limit per election, to help keep the Republican governor in office for another four years, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The 28-year-old billionaire first got to know Christie in 2010 when he donated $100 million to Newark’s public schools, the AP reported.

“Mark and (his wife) Priscilla have worked closely with Governor Christie on education reform in the Newark school system,” Facebook spokeswoman Sarah Feinberg said, according to the Wall Street Journal. “They admire his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark’s school children.”

Zuckerberg is not registered with a particular party on the electoral rolls, the Wall Street Journal reported.

His company has a political action committee that donates money to both Democratic and Republican candidates, the Wall Street Journal reported. The Facebook PAC has backed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelsoi and Democratic Sens. Chris Coons, Dick Durbin and John Kerry as well as House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, plus Republican Sens. Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz.

Christie is the leading candidate for New Jersey Gov. in November’s election, according to the AP.
