London’s for big spenders; Hanoi is for bargain travelers

Americans dreaming of a London vacation this summer may want to look to Budapest instead.

London is the most expensive city for American travelers this summer, according to TripAdvisor's TripIndex.

The index ranks cities based on the costs of a one-night stay for two in a four-star hotel, a cocktail, two-course dinner, bottle of wine and taxi costs for a two short trips. It does not include airfare.

According to TripAdvisor's calculations, a quick overnight in London could easily cost at least $518. A similar trip to Budapest, on the other hand, could easily be had for under $200.

The Hungarian capital is a city where travelers will get a far bigger bang for their forints, the Boston Globe said, referring to the country's currency.

Still, venturing to Hanoi could be cheaper. An overnight trip for two to the Vietnamese capital would cost just $141, TripAdvisor said.

Hanoi was the cheapest spot on the TripIndex.
