James Holmes threatened professor before theater shooting, docs say

James Holmes threatened a professor and was banned from the University of Colorado campus weeks before he opened fire during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie, prosecutors said in court documents released Friday.

The name of the person threatened by Holmes was blacked out in the documents.

They did report the incident, and Holmes was denied access to campus "as a result of these actions," The Associated Press reported.

Defense attorneys dispute those claims, calling them false based on university statements.

Holmes' attorneys claim he's mentally ill and have said he tried calling his psychiatrist just minutes before the July 20 shooting.

Holmes also mailed a notebook to university psychiatrist Lynne Fenton containing graphic descriptions of an attack, though it did not reach her until after the Aurora theater massacre, CBS News reported.

The 24-year-old faces 152 charges in the shooting during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises." Twelve people were killed and 58 injured.
