BOSTON — The days leading up to the first presidential debate were defined by a crescendo of projections and pundit predictions. And despite polls showing President Barack Obama pulling into a comfortable lead across the nation, and in swing states in particular, many Republicans remained steadfast in their support for Mitt Romney. And on an evening many defined as critical for the candidates, supporters on both sides of the aisle said they still believed in their choice for president.
