He plays Dr. "McDreamy" on TV, and now Patrick Dempsey is a hero in real life, rescuing a teen from a car crash near his home.

The "Grey's Anatomy" star used a fire extinguisher and a crowbar to pull the 17-year-old boy to safety after his car flipped over near Dempsey's Malibu, Calif., home last week, People.com reported.

"I was scared for my life. I was upside down," driver Weston Masset told ABC News.

After pulling the barely conscious Masset from the wreckage, Dempsey paramedics and stayed by the teen's side as he was airlifted to the hospital. He was treated for a concussion and an eye injury and is expected to make a full recovery, according to People.com.

His first words on seeing Dempsey pulling him out of the wreck were, "Are you famous?" to which Dempsey replied, "Yeah I'm a doctor," Masset told ABC News.

Dempsey, 46, then called the boy's mother to inform her of the situation.

"He had a certain authority in his voice," the teen's mother, Mary Beth Masset, told ABC News. "I asked if he was a paramedic and he said no, "This is Patrick Dempsey." I thought, McDreamy?"

Dempsey's reps declined to comment on the star's heroics.  video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player
